This natural disinfectant is green, clean and very mean – to harmful bacteria, viruses and germs, that is. The Toucan Eco utilises the power of salt and water, combined with innovative science, is trusted by industries worldwide. Now it’s available for your home and workplace with a little help from McKechnie Cleaning Services.
Compact and easy to use, cleaning innovations like the eSpray or Toucan Eco III puts the power of electrochemically activated water in your hands. No chemicals, no plastic bottles, no strong smells and no recycling. Most importantly no damage to the environment. Just a proven, effective way to wipe out germs to keep you and those around you safe, happy and healthy.
Toucan Eco- It is proven to kill viruses
In September 2020 it became the first hypochlorous solution to receive double certification against viruses. Toucan Eco, which makes a multipurpose antibacterial disinfectant, has become one of the first cleaning products of its kind to receive both EN 14476 and EN 16777 certification. This proves its virucidal efficacy against coronaviruses.
Following independent, accredited laboratory testing, the Toucan Eco range has been validated for use to EN standards and is certified to kill more than 99.99% (or >4-log) of viruses. Both certifications are virucidal tests targeted at a broad spectrum of enveloped viruses including coronavirus, against which many chemical disinfectants have not been certified.
EN 14476 – the more widely known of the certifications – is a suspension test where the efficacy of the solution is tested in vitro. EN 16777, which is a certified surface test, proves that this efficacy can be applied in the real world of surface disinfecting and other cleaning processes.
This ground-breaking achievement is believed to be the first hypochlorous generator that uses just water, salt and and a little electricity to be certified to both standards, making Toucan Eco the most effective hypochlorous acid solution currently on the market.
As well as the latest virucidal tests, the solution has already been certified to EN 1276 and EN 13697 standards for bacterial efficacy. It is also registered as an EU Biocide for disinfectant use by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). And, as it’s made at a low concentration and gentle pH, it’s also food-safe, non-toxic and hypoallergenic, avoiding skin irritation and breathing difficulties for users.
The science behind the Toucan Eco Innovation…..
The solution comprises of water and salt, which is electrolysed to break up and recombine the naturally occurring elements of water (H20) and salt (NaCl) to produce hypochlorous acid (HOCI), an effective disinfectant, and sodium hypochlorite (NAOCI) at a concentration and pH that acts a gentle cleaner.
HOCI is a weak acid that’s produced by our bodies as our immune systems’ way of protecting us from infections. As our body comes under attack from harmful bacteria and viruses, the immune system responds by sending white blood cells to the infection. Once activated, these cells produce the same HOCI, which is amongst the most potent and naturally occurring disinfectants.
How to use and apply
Once activated, the disinfectant can be sprayed directly on the targeted surface, including glass and fabric materials. You then have a choice, you can leave left to dry or wipe it away. It can also be used as a deodoriser and can be applied as a fine mist, in order to safely disinfect larger areas too – offices, cafes, bars, gyms etc.
During the application of any cleaning product, it is most effective when used as part of a two stage process. This is widely recognised as being the most effective way to clean and disinfect, as disinfectants kill more germs if surfaces are dust, dirt and grime free first. What makes Toucan Eco special? You can use the solution for both stages. Twice the power, half the effort!!
The contact between surface and solution is crucial here. With Toucan Eco, you can spray and wipe – McKechnie Cleaning Services recommend using microfibre cloths or wipes – and also allow the surface to dry naturally where possible.
Helping us in the fight against Covid-19
Dr. Darren Reynolds, professor in Health and Environment at the University of the West of England, explains:
“Over the last three decades, we’ve assembled a body of published research to put forward the case that electrochemically-activated solutions serve as an alternative to other disinfection products.
“In my opinion, we should have used HOCl from the very start in the fight against Covid-19. It would have made a huge difference – but it’s still not too late. In our research, we’ve tested this solution against a plethora of bacteria, including MRSA, E. coli and spores, and the results are always the same; we get substantial kill.
“One of the advantages of using an electrochemically-activated solution is the speed of kill of around two seconds of contact with a bacteria on a surface or in a suspension, which is faster than the speed of kill from traditional disinfectants.”
The use of hypochlorous acid is growing in popularity
Over the last number of years, sustainable and eco-friendly products are being adopted more and more by both home owners and businesses. What they are doing is looking for non-chemical cleaning solutions that are; safe to use, cost-effective and minimise and potential environmental impacts.
Hypochlorous acid is already widely used by larger nations such as America and across the UK. It is already being used to disinfect across many different types of businesses including opticians, dentists, schools, restaurants and manufacturing facilities. This double certification proves its complete effectiveness.
Exactly what we need – Powerful, safe and eco-friendly
In the wake of Covid-19, there is a real opportunity for businesses to adopt a more sustainable cleaning solution that can be used daily as a multipurpose disinfectant cleaner, that’s effective against coronaviruses, and reduces the use of synthetic chemicals and the single-use plastic bottles they are supplied in.
Toucan Eco is also available the Toucan Eco 3, a one litre model for the home and small businesses such as shops, gyms, cafes, schools and doctors surgeries.
