WEEE REGULATION

According to the WEEE regulations, McKechnie is committed to accepting Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) from the public at no cost. We prioritize our environmental responsibilities and adhere to all relevant laws. These regulations aim to encourage the recycling of WEEE and contribute to meeting the targets for its collection, treatment, recovery, and disposal in an environmentally responsible manner as mandated by the directive. They place obligations on those involved in supplying electrical and electronic equipment to the Irish market, including retailers, importers, and manufacturers.

How does WEEE work?

Every local authority must offer free collection of household WEEE and small batteries at their recycling centers. It’s important to note that all WEEE and waste batteries must be recycled and should not be disposed of in household bins. Remember to consistently recycle your old electrical items and batteries.

The “Take Back” policy operates on a one-for-one basis, where the returned product must be of a comparable type or serve a similar function to the newly purchased item. For instance, if you’re purchasing a new vacuum cleaner, we will accept your old vacuum at no cost and guarantee its environmentally responsible disposal.

What steps should you take when returning Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)?

If you wish to return electrical appliances, please do so at our Customer Service Desk, located in any of our stores in Little Island. Upon purchasing a new appliance, we are pleased to accept your old appliance free of charge as long as it is of a similar type. However, we reserve the right to decline the return of contaminated WEEE that poses health and safety hazards.

What occurs if you fail to bring your old appliance along with you?

If you buy a new electrical product but overlook returning your old one on the same day, you can bring it back to our store during your next visit. Please remember to hold onto your receipt for the new electrical item and present it at the customer service desk when returning the old one.

What is the procedure for home deliveries?

If you decide to have your electrical item delivered, we will collect your old appliance free of charge on the day of delivery, provided it serves a similar function to the new item purchased.
